You can choose to live free of addiction.
That’s the message in this web video we produced for the West Virginia Behavioral Healthcare Providers Association. They asked us to produce a video that would convey the emotional struggle of drug addiction — but ended with a positive message of hope. Our creative team decided a cinematic production style was needed to create the desired emotional effect. We shot the piece with prime lenses and our RED camera ensuring we could achieve the required film look, which would enable us to draw the audience into the addict’s world.
Local veteran actors Tony Slack and Cassandra Phelps were hired to play the roles of addict and spouse, along with adorable Peyton Huddleston, who played their daughter. The first half of the story utilized hand-held camera techniques. In post, we muted and desaturated the color to visually portray the addict’s feelings of confusion and despair. The dreary look of the opening scenes contrast with the bright, colorful and hopeful second half of the story, to indicate our former addict has recovered and he and his family are doing well.
